Introduction to long residence and private life applications

This is one of a series of online courses that we offer in relation to family and private life claims in the context of immigration applications within and outside the Immigration Rules. The other one presently available is Private life claims – Becoming an Expert. Inevitably these courses overlap somewhat as it is not feasible to fully differentiate between basic and advanced knowledge, and besides, some delegates, depending on their experience and knowledge, will want to go straight to the Becoming an expert course without attempting the Introduction first.

The Becoming an expert course provides significantly more details than the Introduction with regard to pursuing Article 8 claims outside the Rules, in its treatment of Home Office guidance and the case law, and in the detail with which it addresses the cases of children and individuals with health problems, and on the current thinking on the two-stage test following the July 2012 Rules changes.
