IAA Accreditation Training

HJT Training has always offered specialist training to advisers and organisations at all levels of the IAA accreditation scheme, whether not for profit or otherwise. HJT is continuing to train in-house for the IAA. Our programme is designed to offer to busy IAA advisers a full range of courses either to update on the latest developments, to refresh core skills or to upgrade skills and knowledge to achieve accreditation at a higher level of the scheme. Our IAA accreditation courses are the best way for new advisers to prepare for the registration tests and get to grips with the necessary range of IAA competences.

HJT Training are responsible for supplying the IAA exam papers across all 3 levels, the marking and moderation process, and the communication of IAA exam results with examinees. We are working hard with the IAA to ensure that together we raise the standard of legal representation in the IAA sector and hope that the accreditation scheme will help us to achieve this whilst ensuring fairness, consistency and accessibility for all.

The Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner has announced a rebrand. From 16 January 2025, It is now known as Immigration Advice Authority (IAA).This marks a bold new chapter in its evolution, reflecting ambitious growth plans, a strengthened workforce, and enhanced leadership. At the heart of its work is its mission to protect advice seekers by regulating, enforcing, and promoting best practice.
Together, we’re shaping the future of immigration advice and raising standards across the sector.

How to become an OISC Advisor

  • IAA Level 1

Our IAA level 1 accreditation training course is designed as an entry level course on immigration advice (i.e. within the Immigration Rules). In this course we aim to cover the syllabus at IAA level 1. The aim of this course is to provide delegates with the sufficient knowledge, in preparation for the level 1 IAA exams with focusing on the IAA’s core requirements. Delegates will be provided with the latest edition of the IAA level 1 HJT Immigration manual as well as practical guidance with accompanying self-study material to be used after the course during revision for individuals’ IAA exams.

  • IAA Level 2

Our IAA level 2 course runs over two days, and consists of more complex casework (i.e. applications outside of the Immigration Rules). In this course we cover the syllabus at IAA level 2. This course is specifically aimed at immigration advisers seeking accreditation at IAA Level 2 and may be more suitable to those who are interested in becoming acquainted with immigration and asylum law. This two day course is tailored to less experienced practitioners preparing to accredit at a lower level. Be warned at the outset that, although the course does not cover the same detail required for the more advanced IAA Level 3 course, the trainers will still need to move at a fairly intensive pace to cover all the necessary ground. Both OISC Level 2 Immigration and IAA Level 3 Asylum available.

  • IAA Level 3

HJT Training’s IAA Level 3 course is more complex training in both Immigration and Asylum & Protection (i.e. substantive appeals work). In this course we cover the syllabus at IAA Level 3 as published in the Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner’s Guidance on Competence. Many past delegates have used HJT Training’s course as a springboard to success in their IAA accreditation examinations at Level 2/3, but the course is also of general interest to students, volunteers and others wanting a thorough introduction to both Immigration and Asylum & Protection. A IAA Level 3 exam revision is also available.

What the participants say

Emile Kouame – Gurkha Solicitors

It was very useful taking the demo presentation. Shareen was very knowledgeable about the contents and the areas of the immigration. I feel very privileged to listen to her about the great contents Mastering Immigration Law offers. I have been practicing immigration for ages but refreshing to know how my work can improve with the subscription.

Bethany Webb-Strong – Seraphus Solicitors

Shareen was very engaging and explained the HJT training services clearly and concisely. The demo was very useful in introducing the training modules and showed me how to navigate the website and make the most of all the resources available. It could be useful to explain about how at the end of each module there are videos which recap and explain the parts of each module – I actually intend to listen to these first to give some background to the chapter and then begin a more thorough study of each module.

Asylum Aid

I would like to thank you and Julian Build for preparing me very well for the immigration supervising caseworker exam, which I have passed with 88%. I couldn’t have done it without your support.
