IAA Competence Assessment Changes: Watch Our Free Q&A with The Open University

IAA Competence Assessment Changes: Watch Our Free Q&A with The Open University

Following the Immigration Advice Authority’s (IAA) announcement of significant changes to its competence assessment process, HJT Training is continuing to support candidates as they prepare for the revised assessment arrangements.

We understand that changes to the syllabus, assessment structure and application process may raise questions, particularly for those currently studying towards their Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3 IAA competence assessment.

To help clarify the changes and explain what they mean for candidates, HJT Training has joined forces with The Open University to produce a free Q&A video explaining the revised IAA syllabus and assessment requirements.

Understanding what is changing is an important first step towards effective preparation. Our Q&A video provides an opportunity to learn more about the revised syllabus and the implications for those planning to enter or progress within the immigration advice sector.

The video is available to watch for free, providing candidates and prospective advisers with accessible guidance to help them understand the changes and prepare for what comes next. Also see our blog post on an in-depth summary of what is changing.

How HJT Training is supporting candidates

At HJT Training, we recognise the importance of keeping candidates informed and ensuring they have the support they need throughout their training.

We are reviewing the revised syllabus and assessment requirements so that our training and preparation materials reflect the relevant changes. We will also help our current trainees understand the new requirements, including the additional emphasis on ethics, professional behaviour and the IAA Code of Standards.

If you are already undertaking IAA training with us, you can be reassured that we will guide you through the relevant changes and support your preparation for the revised assessments.

Our aim is to help you approach your assessment with a clear understanding of what is expected and the confidence to move forward in your professional journey.

The exams will most likely return in November 2026, however preparing for these changes should start immediately. You should prepare yourself effectively to give yourself the best chance in successfully passing your assessments.

At HJT Training, we can help candidates understand the revised requirements and prepare for the knowledge, competence and professional standards expected under the new assessment arrangements in our Level 1, Level 1 Exam technique, Level 2 and Level 3 training courses. As well as our Open University courses Level 1 and Level 2/3.

We can also help you with the full registration process, see here for more
