Jake Dutton Remembered

HJT Training are very sorry to announce the sad loss of Jake Dutton, a friend & colleague, who passed away last weekend after a brave fight with cancer.

Jake worked with HJT Training for many years, both as a trainer specialising in Employment and Immigration Law, and as the author of the acclaimed HJT publication “Unfair Dismissal”.

Jake was a barrister and member of Clerksroom, working from 218 Strand in London. He specialised in employment, discrimination and harassment, immigration and regulatory and disciplinary law, and appeared in many leading appellate cases, having established a reputation as a first rate advocate.  He had previously worked as a Solicitor-Advocate and was passionate about his work.  Jake acted both for household corporate names and small businesses as well as trade unions and workers on low incomes.

After working as a trainer for HJT, Jake approached us with the idea of publishing a book on Employment Law.   The resulting manual, “Unfair Dismissal” took eight years to write and was first published in 2012. Described as a “comprehensive and thoughtful book” by Robin Allen QC, the manual provides detailed coverage of a technical & complex subject.  Now in its third edition, Jake’s writing is both intellectually rigorous whilst adopting a practical and commercial approach to cases.  Jake said he wrote the book because he loved what he did and loved the law, and we are proud to have published it.

Jake will be sorely missed by all at HJT. We would like to extend our condolences to Carmel and family.
