Immigration News Weekly Roundup – 2nd December 2022

Concerns relating to fair and just treatment for asylum seekers continued to linger this week in the media, as the diphtheria condition rises in asylum hotels. Consensus reveal surge of switch overs of foreign students from their Tier 4 visas to Skilled Worker visa – confirming the popularity of this route and UK’s standing as the most sought country for employment purposes. On the same note, the Home Office has made further updates to the Guidance on Global Mobility routes for employers hiring foreign workers.

Amongst the other Policy documents updated for employment purposes is the Guidance on the Afghan locally employed staff schemes in connection with Afghan relocation scheme.

Ministers ‘considering plans to allow migrants to be held for up to 96 hours’

Ministers are reportedly considering changing the law to allow Channel migrants to be held at the Manston processing centre for up to 96 hours. According to The Daily Telegraph, the change would allow migrants to be held for three or four days – up from the current statutory limit of 24 hours – to give officials more flexibility in the event of another surge in Channel arrivals.
